If you're reading this, you're likely walking one of the most tender and difficult roads a pet owner can travel. You're watching someone you love — someone who has been at your side through ordinary mornings and extraordinary moments — begin to slow down. And you're trying to figure out how to be there for them the way they have always been there for you.
I want you to know: I see you. And I built Shay Shay Veterinary Mobile for exactly this moment.
My name is Dr. Dixon, and my practice is devoted entirely to mobile, at-home veterinary care — with a special focus on end-of-life services for pets and the families who love them. I didn't choose this work because it's easy. I chose it because I believe deeply that every animal deserves to spend their final days in comfort, dignity, and peace — not in a sterile clinic, not in a waiting room, but at home, surrounded by the smells and sounds and people they love most.
I have sat with hundreds of families in their living rooms, their backyards, and on their bedroom floors. I have watched beautiful, complicated grief — and I have watched something else, too: the profound relief on an animal's face when they are allowed to simply be at home. The way they settle. The way the anxiety leaves their body. The way they seem to understand that they are safe.
That is why I do this work. That moment, repeated hundreds of times, is why Shay Shay Veterinary Mobile exists.
This guide was created to give you knowledge and words for the hardest questions. But please remember: no guide can replace a real conversation. If you're not sure what you're seeing, or you need someone to think through it with you, call me. You don't need to have all the answers before you pick up the phone. That's what I'm here for.
I am honored to walk this with you and your pet. It is a privilege I do not take lightly.
At-home end-of-life care changes everything about the experience. Animals are significantly calmer in their own environment — no car rides, no waiting rooms, no unfamiliar smells. The difference in their body language when they are home is visible and profound. And for the family, being at home means you can grieve freely, stay as long as you need, and say goodbye exactly the way you want to.
A peaceful, gentle, and unhurried appointment in the comfort of your home. Dr. Dixon takes time to ensure your pet is fully relaxed and at ease before the final medication, so their last moments are truly peaceful. Family members of all ages are welcome to be present.
When your pet is declining but not yet at the end, Dr. Dixon can visit your home to assess comfort, review pain management, answer your questions, and help your family make a plan. These consultations bring clarity and peace of mind during an uncertain time.
Not sure if it's time? Dr. Dixon can come to your home to conduct a thorough quality-of-life evaluation — assessing pain levels, mobility, comfort, and overall wellbeing — and talk with you honestly about what she sees and what your options are.
Dr. Dixon can help coordinate cremation services, provide paw print impressions and fur clippings as keepsakes, and connect families with grief support resources. She believes the care doesn't end when your pet passes — it continues with you.
Sometimes you just need someone to talk to. Dr. Dixon is available for phone consultations to help you process what you're seeing, answer difficult questions, and provide guidance when you're feeling overwhelmed. You don't have to face this alone.
